Phoenixville 49, Upper Perkiomen 20

RED HILL — There was no new offensive scheme to learn, and nothing out of the ordinary to expect from Upper Perkiomen’s defense. But for some reason, Phoenixville quarterback Chris Demey said he felt added pressure heading into Friday night’s Pioneer Athletic Conference game at Upper Perk.

Maybe it had something to do with the extra attention the senior has been garnering as the league’s most efficient quarterback, or the two wins he helped guide his team to before last night.

Whatever the case, those additional nerves didn’t seem to bother the 5-foot-8, 180-pound senior. No, Demey looked calm and collective as he guided the Phantoms to a 49-20 victory over the Indians to keep his team in the District 1-AAA playoff hunt.

Mind you, Demey’s numbers weren’t all the gaudy, but his efficient 12 of 18 passing for 105 yards was a big key to Phoenixville’s 23 first downs, and a balanced catalyst to offset a ground game that racked up 360 yards.

Pottstown 33, Upper Perkiomen 19

RED HILL — On paper, the match-up of Pottstown’s prolific offense against Upper Perkiomen’s anything but stingy defense was one that certainly favored the Trojans.

But when it came down to it in Friday night’s Pioneer Athletic Conference game, the rankings, statistics and tendencies sure didn’t seem to hold much weight.

The Indians, playing in their Homecoming game, held the Trojans to just 226 total yards, nearly half of its usual offensive output. But the Trojans’ 61-yard punt return and 37-yard interception return proved to be the difference as they pulled away to a 33-19 victory.

As crafty as Pottstown head coach Brett Myers can be with his potent offense, there was nothing fancy about the pivotal scoring drive. With a 20-13 lead early in the fourth quarter, Myers used a steady diet of inside runs with Monroe Hampton (16 carries, 56 yards, 2 TDs), coupled with the outside speed of Dayon Mohler (13 carries, 60 yards).

Methacton 35, Upper Perkiomen 6

RED HILL – Granted, the 2012 football season is nearing the halfway point, but as far as Paul Lepre, Brandon Bossard and the rest of Methacton’s squad is concerned, they’re just getting started.
The Warriors head coach and quarterback, respectively, have taken that approach after Methacton got off to a slow start, but have gained some momentum with a pair of victories. Their latest came Friday night as the Warriors played solid on both sides of the ball in a 35-6 victory over Upper Perkiomen.
Bossard was one of the main culprits of the win as he led his team rushing with 81 yards and a score on 13 carries and finished an efficient 10 of 14 for 122 yards and three touchdowns.
