Be kind and gentle here... not exactly sure where everyone is going to be; taking a lot from what I've heard and been told the past month or so; and, bottom line, just trying to GET SOME NAMES out there for the beginning of another wrestling season ... Plus it's raining today - so no golf. ... Also, I'll bet my house - and any flower-power t-shirts from the 60s I haven't thrown out yet - this so-called power projection WILL NOT be the same after the weekend.

1. Owen J. Roberts ... can't disagree with the state gurus who have OJR ranked No. 1

2. Boyertown ... will get better as season goes along

3. Spring-Ford ... has a few holes, but could be No. 2 if Bears slip

WEEK 12 RANKINGS

Sometimes change is good, but there is nothing wrong with The Mercury's Super Six - which remained unchanged once again following last weekend's games.

1. POTTSGROVE (11-0): The Falcons beat old nemisis Strath Haven for the second year in a row. Except for that opening drive and the quarterback sneak that went for a touchdown to open the second half there, they didn't give much up at all defensively, either. Good, solid win for the Falcons, who now face Henderson - unquestionably their biggest challenge of the season yet in the District 1-AAA semifinals.

2. SPRING-FORD (10-1): The Rams picked up their school's first and the entire Mercury area's first win in the District 1-AAAA playoffs by defeating Garnet Valley. Next up is No. 2 seed Ridley down in Folsom that, contrary to most critics, is a winnable game.

3. PERKIOMEN VALLEY (8-3): The Vikings closed out their season with a come-from-behind win up at Saucon Valley. With a noticeable group of underclassmen returning, they could be the team to watch next year.

4. PHOENIXVILLE (6-5): The Phantoms' bid to return to the District 1-AAA final came up short following a loss at Interboro. They'll have time to regroup for the Thanksgiving Day game at Spring-Ford, which right now could be Thanksgiving Eve (like last year).

5. METHACTON (6-5): The Warriors capped off a 4-1 run down the stretch with a lopsided win over Norristown last weekend for their second straight winning season.

6. POTTSTOWN (5-6): The Trojans broke a number of single-game and single-season records last Friday night in their double-overtime win against Great Valley. On Thanksgiving morning over in Bucktown, they'll have an opportunity to finish at .500 for the first time in head coach Brett Myers' brief career guiding the program.

WEEK ELEVEN RANKINGS

Not many changes in our 11th edition of The Mercury's Super Six... but we're heading into the stretch, with a few non-league games to help fill out a schedule headlined by three district playoff games.

SUPER SIX

   1. POTTSGROVE (10-0): Falcons defeated Phoenixville to win another outright PAC-10 title. ... They should roll Friday night against Strath Haven in the opening round of the District 1-AAA playoffs, but the following week - in all probability - they'll likely see the sleeper of the bracket in Henderson.

   2. SPRING-FORD (9-1): Rams move up from No. 3 after their win over Perkiomen Valley clinched a spot in the District 1-AAAA playoffs for the second straight year. ... They're at home Friday against Garnet Valley - which may be their toughest test of the entire season.

   3. PERKIOMEN VALLEY (7-3): Vikings dropped a spot after the loss to Spring-Ford, which also dropped them out of the district playoffs. ... They'll be traveling to Saucon Valley on Friday in hopes of closing out the season on a winning note.

   4. PHOENIXVILLE (6-4): Phantoms have played better than their record indicates, only problem is that they've run into a few even better (like Pottsgrove) in recent weeks. ... Traveling to Interboro for districts on Friday night won't be a picnic, but they beat up the Bucs a year ago when the odds weren't necessarily in their favor.

   5. METHACTON (5-5): Like Phoenixville, the Warriors have been playing better and better with each passing week, and now have the opportunity for a second-straight winning season with a win at Norristown on Saturday.

   6. POTTSTOWN (4-6): The Trojans have lost three in a row, but can still regroup and finish with a .500 mark with wins over Great Valley on Friday and Owen J. Roberts on Thanksgiving.

WEEK 10 RANKINGS

Heading into what is the final week of the regular season for most of The Mercury-area teams ... and little, once again, has changed among the Super Six:

1. Pottsgrove (9-0): Many are saying this is Pottsgrove's best team in years (and that includes more than a few in the recent past). With districts (and perhaps states) ahead, the Falcons will have the opportunity to prove just that.

2. Perkiomen Valley (7-2): The Vikings did absolutely nothing to tear off the tag as the area's second-best team right now. If it weren't for a few missed tackles, last Friday's game at Pottsgrove may have gone into a overtime marathon. Only two losses have been to opponents heading into the playoffs, but they need one against No. 3 Spring-Ford to assure themselves of a spot in the postseason, too.

3. Spring-Ford (8-1): Despite playing without their No. 1 running back since Week Three, the Rams pretty much handled everyone but Pottsgrove. Now the big test comes Friday night in the muck at Perkiomen Valley - or on the turf at Ursinus College or back at Spring-Ford (or so we're hearing in the leftover winds of Sandy). Bottom line is the winner advances into the District 1-AAAA playoffs... while the loser will need help to stay among the Top 16.

4. Phoenixville (6-3): In the beginning of the year, most expected Pannella, Yenchick and White to be carriers of success. Now a whole bunch of others are sharing the load and helped the Phantoms get themselves in a position to make the District 1-AAA playoffs for the second straight year. Up next is Pottsgrove, and an upset of the Falcons will not only create a two- or possible three-way for the PAC-10 lead, but guarantee the Phantoms a good postseason seed.

5. Methacton (4-5): The Warriors are playing better now than they have all season. Bossard is coming off his best game of the year, and Lowery looks like one of the area's better players who never leaves the field. Dealing with Pottstown's speed on Saturday - and with former rival Norristown next week - will determine if the Warriors can finish over the .500 mark again.

6. Pottstown (4-5): Why rank anyone who has lost back-to-back games by identical 55-20 scores? For starters, the losses were to No. 1 Pottsgrove and No. 2 Spring-Ford. If you need a second reason, try finding a defense to stop them.

The No. 1 through No. 5 remain unchanged from a week ago ... but Perkiomen School - after quite an offensive display last Saturday afternoon - moves into the No. 6 spot. The Panthers will get their toughest test of the season this weekend, though, against Archmere Academy, Del.

Looking ahead to this weekend, No. 5 Pottstown hosts No. 1 Pottsgrove in the only game involving two ranked teams.

Now next week is entirely different story, but we'll wait awhile before we get into that. 

WEEK SEVEN RANKINGS

   No changes among the Top Five. ... Owen J. Roberts, with three straight wins, jumps into the Super Six for the first time this season. ... Very little separates the first through third spots, and there isn't likely to be any changes for at least another two weeks, or after Perkiomen Valley closes out the regular season with games against Pottsgrove and Spring-Ford - a two-week, round-robin finish that will decide the Pioneer Athletic Conference championship and who may or may not head into the postseason. ... There really isn't anything that separates the fourth through six spots - or if you want to go to a seventh and include Methacton. ... With the exception of Perkiomen School (3-1), the Super Six features the area's only teams that own .500 or better records through six weeks of play.

Roberts two weeks ago and holds onto No. 4.... If Pottstown can resolve its defensive woes, the Trojans could be as dangerous as anyone in the area - including everyone above them in the Super Six. ... Methacton takes over at No. 6, and owns a two-game winning streak going into Saturday's matinee against visiting Pottsgrove.

   No changes among the Top Four. Pottstown moved up a spot and Boyertown dropped down one after the two teams' Friday Night Fright (as in no defense) that ended up in the Trojans favor, 51-47.
   Pottsgrove will be up at Boyertown this Friday night in what could be yet another high-scoring affair, while Spring-Ford entertains Upper Perkiomen in (sorry to sound repetitious) what could be yet another high-scoring affair. Boyertown is giving up an average of 38 points a game, Pottsgrove is scoring an average of 48.3.Upper Perkiomen is surrendering an average of 51.7 points a game, Spring-Ford is scoring an average of 42.
   Then again, neither the Falcons nor the Rams can afford to look past this weekend. In case you lost your schedule, they face one another next week (Friday, Sept. 28th) at the 'Grove in a game many feel will decide the PAC-10 championship.
   The Game of the Week, perhaps, is Perkiomen Valley's visit to Pottstown. Quarterback Rasaan Stewart is questionable, but the Vikings proved last weekend they can still get up and go with Dakota Clanagan. Pottstown proved it can generate some get up and go, too, after setting a PAC-10 record with 653 yards of offense last week.
   Phoenixville will be at OJR in one of the league's more spirited rivalries. It also mark the 54th meeting between the two schools.

No changes in No. 1 and No. 2 from last week ... neither team had much trouble in winning their second straight game. The Falcons showed they have more than just backs who can run the ball, and defense played well in forcing PJP to pass, pass, pass. Rams showed they can rely on a couple more running backs, too, and their defense continues to improve.

No. 3 Perkiomen Valley remained right where it was last week with a decisive win over last week's No. 4 Methacton. And barring any losses over the next month or so, the Vikings could be there when the PAC-10 season winds down and they travel to Pottsgrove and Spring-Ford on the final two werekends of the regular season. ...Phoenxiville, unranked last week, shoots up into the No. 4 spot after knocking off Berks Catholic League contender Exeter. ... Boyertown remains at No. 5 following its big win over Upper Perkiomen, and Pottstown comes in at No. 6 because of how dominant the Trojans were in the lopsided win over Penn Wood. ... Don't forget Pottstown visits Boyertown this Friday night.

Hill School falls out of the Super Six only because of not opening its season yet. But the Rams can sure make a statement to get back in the rankings this Saturday afternoon when they host Germantown Academy.
