UPPER PROVIDENCE — He had half the signature trappings of the Pope John Paul II boys basketball team in hand Friday.
In the wake of the Golden Panthers’ overtime victory against Phoenixville, Jamel Stinson was seen holding court with various well-wishers in the PJP gym. Called aside by head coach Jack Flanagan for a post-game media session, Stinson — still in uniform after the tough Pioneer Athletic Conference contest — had in hand a yellow plastic construction worker’s helmet.
“That’s something the coach got us started on,” Stinson said in explanation.
There’s no lunchbox to go along with the helmet ... just yet. But it points out the persona Flanagan wants his club to assume in its third year of existence.
