PROSPECT PARK — Phoenixville’s dreams of a return trip to the District 1-AAA football final ended quickly Friday night in the first round of the postseason.
The Phantoms met a tough foe in host Interboro, which stormed out to a 35-0 lead in the third quarter en route to a 35-14 victory for the third-seeded Bucs against the sixth-seeded Phantoms.
“We knew they were a big team,” said Phoenixville senior linebacker Brian Madden. “We kind of underestimated their speed. They are a good team. They work hard, play hard.”
Phoenixville scored on two touchdown runs by Sean Hesser of 7 and 13 yards in the second half.
Hesser finished with 56 yards rushing on five carries. He also caught two Chris Demey passes for 28 yards. Ryan Yenchick rushed for 53 yards on 11 attempts and also caught three passes for 37 more yards.
