PHOENIXVILLE — Both sides handed out lavish praise to one another following Friday night’s Pottsgrove-Phoenixville football game at Washington Field.
First of all, the visiting Falcons completed a perfect run through the Pioneer Athletic Conference with a 24-7 victory over the Phantoms.
However, Pottsgrove (9-0, 10-0 overall) accomplished the monumenal feat despite a stern test from a Phoenixville ballclub riding a three-game winning streak and observing its Senior Night, and one that will join the Falcons in the District 1-AAA playoffs starting next weekend.
Pottsgrove led Phoenixville (5-3, 6-4) by a 7-0 score at the end of the first period and 14-0 at halftime. The Phantoms closed to within 14-7 by the end of the third quarter before the Falcons outscored the hosts 10-0 in the final stanza to post the victory.
“We knew it was going to be a battle,” said Pottsgrove star senior offensive tackle Madison O’Connor. “It always is when we come down here. I remember my freshman year we came down here. They play the same style and it was a battle. They are a good team. Number 77 (Brian Hyland) is the best lineman I have played against all year.”
