TODAY’S GAMES
HILL SCHOOL AT PEDDIE SCHOOL
Records: The Hill School is 0-3 after a 9-3 loss to Springside Chestnut Hill. Peddie School is 0-3 following a 33-8 loss to Penn Charter.
Inside the lines: Hill has played good enough on defense to be 2-1 instead of winless through three games. Offense has been missing, or averaging just under 130 yards and producing only two touchdowns and a field goal. Johnnie Cherneskie was a pick-me-up last week running the ball, but the passing game has hit on just 18 of 48 attempts for 180 yards. Offense and defense both took a hit this week after learning two-way starter A.J. Garcia is out for the season with an injury. … Peddie is led by sophomore quarterback Dominic Borelli and running backs Rory Merklinger, Ron Ryder and Cal Parker. Matt Smedley has been big on defense, returning an interception for six points.
Notes: Hill School leads the series, 50-21-1 … Hill has won four straight, including the last two by shutouts. … Mid-Atlantic Prep League opener for both teams. … Peddie is led by former Hill head coach Frank deLaurentis. … Hill head coach Grey Simpson: “We’ve lost two starters on defense, so we need others to step up in a big way. And on offense, we’re still looking to find our rhythm. Our passing game just has not gotten on track, so we have gone more to the run game as of late. Cherneskie proved to be a workhorse carrying the ball in our last game.”
